First Perception After Death

The point finally arrives and you are within minutes of passing. Many have come this route – how many? The number is roughly 93.2 billion people and only about 6.8% or 6.8 billion people are currently alive in 2011 and thus have not yet experienced this moment. So, about 93.2 billion have passed out of this life and depending on your belief either have or have not experienced this first perception after death.
In our hypothetical case you are very near your last breathe surrounded by friends who hope you may live to “fight” another day or some may think it is your time and hope you pass gently but quickly. You however have reached the point where you are filled with one thought. You wonder if you will be out of existence or will you still exist and if the latter, should you be terrified or excited at what is about to occur? You just do not know. You may think everyone must have the same apprehension at this moment. It turns out not everyone has gone to death wondering, “what next.” Paul wrote;

Philippians 1:23

For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

Many people are very confident in their belief, but most are not. Indeed most people will be very surprised at the outcome. You need to be confident and right about your up-coming passing. YOU CAN BE! Typically, people in their reading or listening are not easily convinced regarding something like life’s purpose. However, some are emotionally moved by someone they hear, some strong charismatic personality and form their belief system. There is great wisdom in realizing that the truth is something that convinces you day after day of its validity. You will with time and study become more and more convinced about the truth regarding God’s purpose and your place in that purpose. What is it that convinces you day after day? Of course, it is the word of God that when combined with your devotion to truth provides surety.

There are some things that can be very powerful in terms of bringing you to the point Paul achieved in the verse above. Reading, God’s Oversight of Truth might help to explain and enforce the truth.
So what is your first perception after death? I am now going where I must go as coaching you for heaven and that is to say you will have an awareness of your continuing existence. This will shatter the thinking of so many who convinced themselves there was no afterlife. This is as far as I can go in such thinking because I do not know except to say as the scriptures allow me.

Hebrews 9:27

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment

God’s judgement is swift and perfect and your life has been about this moment. Preparing for that moment may have been something for which you have given little or no consideration. All the things you thought were important in life will no longer seem to have any value. We do not want this to be a fearful moment but that is what God has promised, death then judgement.

Hebrews 10:31

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Here is the beauty, it does not have to be fearful but you can go to death with an assured confidence of heaven. You will NOT get there by living for this present life and all it has to offer. You need what God offers you in Christ. Then and only then can you go into the judgment day with the confidence that all is going to be well.
